“You’re tall. How long exactly, if I may ask?” Not everyone is that direct, but this question is writ large in many peoples’ faces when they meet me for the first time.
I think six foot four sounds nicer than one meter ninety-four, and so it became the name for my own studio: 6’4″ design manufactory. Immediately answers the first question, which is still a nice icebreaker after all the time.
However, outside of England and the US, not everyone is familiar with the imperial system, and even fewer people know the spelling with apostrophe and parentheses.
What I tell my clients – listen to the needs of your target audience and adjust your strategy accordingly – also applies to me. So I finally dare to take the exciting, but important step and adapt my company name.
6’4″ design manufactory becomes sixfoot-four. Nice and short (the name I mean) and it matches the internet address.
